I have one question... the Asian people who use the horns, have they been getting the rhino horns from Africa for the past 2000 years?

Hi Patricia - I am not by any means an expert on the issue. However, I have read that people in Asia have hunted Asian rhinos for the horns for a long time. Asian rhinos are on the bring of extinction, so perhaps they have put more effort in to finding African rhinos.

The argument on trading in rhino horns - those that have been harvested from live rhinos is a difficult one. It feels like an aesthetic travesty, defacing the animal of its iconic symbol, yet on the other hand, if the practice can finance conservation programs, surely that must be a good thing?

Well I had no idea that there are rhinos in Asia! Knowing that fact brings clarity to my confusion about rhinos.

It would definitely be helpful to fund more conservation efforts from the sale of rhino horn. The whole situation just leaves me feeling so sad. Not just the rhinos but all animals that are threatened or become trophies.

Thanks for the information!
